Steve, I have FP 101 on VCR from e-bay. Had it about one year. I'm in my 60s, but I guess it is true that you never get too old to learn. You have taught me a lot; I'm just about ready for No. two. Thanks for your patience. -- John |   |

Hay Steve, Just one of your(sure seems like)old friends,to many things have happened to write. The other night I opened up Vol. 2 and began learning John Hardy, again. Inside was a news letter, spring 1993 anouncing the birth of Mark and a letter from you helping me solve a problem, incidentially a pratice I still use. Also on the back was the letter I wrote. Still the best picker, instructor I've heard. Can't wait to get hold of the new material. Got a lot of catching up. Thanks again for your geuine desire to pass on the music and the personel interest I received. GOD bless you, Ross -- L. |

Hi Steve, I thought I would give you some "feedback" on your DVD ... "Figuring Out the Fingerboard", the following is from a email I sent to "Chris from UK). For me, I’m trying to re-study and then understand and apply the music theory, note theory, etc., and in doing so, learn how to to play up and down the fingerboard. (the hardest part for me is practicing 30 – 90 minutes a day) (Steve’s DVD- Figuring Out the Fingerboard) helped me out a lot … however … I still don’t completely understand the “circle of 5ths”, the chord intervals, note and chord locations up and down the fret board. Steve really “hit the nail on the head” when in his DVD he said … “so what if you memorize and know all the “scales” and “chords” up and down the fret board, so what? (Playing just “scales” and "chords" is not improvising.) The real question is what are you going to do with it? If you’re trying to improvise or jam with others (and play like SK) you need to “know” at least 50 fiddle tunes inside and out! In this DVD, he really “hammered” that Phase 1 principle … learn and memorize the fiddle tunes like Soldier’s Joy, June Apple, Cripple Creek, etc. So when you are jamming, you can cut up into small pieces (the melody strings) you have in your brain and use them when needed, to resolve a tune you’re playing! That was an “aha” for me … you can’t pull it out of your memory if it’s never been memorized … I’ve spent 20 some years doing what I call “doodling or reading music” on my guitar … so now I’ve decided it’s time to put up or shut up! So thanks Steve ... I'm an avid fan of your "flatpicking technique" and can't wait until you come out with a DVD on "Flatpicking the harmonic melody, the SK way!" Hi Steve - for years I played the guitar and never knew that you could play an acoustic with a pick and have it sound so good! I'm now a fervent promoter of your bluegrass songs to my students and I anticipate a blugrass group starting up in our school in Trowbridge, UK, incorporating bass, guitars and violins. (They'll wonder what happened when this performs at a school concert - they'll think I've introduced a non-classical virus to the violinists!!) Keep up the good work and I'll do my bit buying the materials. -- Chris |

Hi Steve, Just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed the seminar this weekend, and as soon as my fingers stop hurtin! I'll start working on those books I bought. Seriously, I learned a lot in a short time and am now inspired to dig into some serious practice. Hope to attend Kamp in 2009, schedule permitting. P.S. Really enjoyed the concert! Happy Travels!
